My mom, aunt, and grandma have all had benign tumors removed from their breasts multiple times so I shouldn't be too worried about it being cancerous but I really cant help myself. So I am experimenting with sea glass. So from what I have heard its simple so I tried it yesterday. If you don't have a rock tumbler and are interesting in getting one, he got mine at Harbor freight. They have the standard one barrel rock tumbler, which is what I have, and they also have a double barrel one available. I guess the double barrel one allows you to have two different tumbles going at once but I personally don't need that. You can also purchase them off amazon, eBay, and I am sure you could find one at a garage sale, maybe craigslist, and you could buy one of the kiddie ones at a toy store.

So what I did is found a bottle from my collection that was plain green glass, that I didn't like very much, double bagged it inside of brown grocery bags to protect myself from getting. Knowing me, if I didn't do that I would have probably hurt myself. I hit the bag against a wall until the pieces were at the size I wanted. After that I just filled the barrel about 2/3rds full with the glass, filled it with water until it just barely covered the glass. I didn't have any plain sand so I just used black aquarium sand that we had left over, about one table spoon. I checked on it after about 4 hours to check the progress. After 4 hours it defiantly was doing the job but I added more sand just in case(two more table spoons) . I have heard it only takes about 8 hours, but I plan on running it for 12-24hrs. By putting the sand in the barrel I am making sea glass the way you see it on the beach; fogging glass pieces without jagged edges. But if you don't want it foggy, just safe to handle, you don't have to put any sand in. I bet I could also put in only tile pieces or broken pieces from old plates and etc, so we shall see!

Anybody have any suggestions on making sea glass another way? or maybe a way to speed up the process?
